

They can allow the whole network or just specific machines to their site. This way the VPN software is not interfering with the routing on the local machine. The better thing to do is go a SITE to SITE VPN with firewalls to their side. If you can't there is nothing you can do other than disconnect each time you need local access. Or tell them to at least allow your local DNS and domain controllers to talk when connected etc. tell them you need SPLIT tunneling and give them your internal network. So there is something called SPLIT tunneling which allows the local traffic (and other networks you define) communicate while on the VPN.

and not allow people to conenct to you and then through the VPN into the corporate network. it gets funneled through the corporate firewall to scan it, etc. So that hackers and virus activity cannot get out your local internet. For safety measures, all data is tunneled through the VPN software to the corporate sight.
